Marilyn embarked on her artistic journey by painting her first canvas, measuring 28"x36", inspired by her black cat lounging in the garden among vibrant trilliums and rocks. Her process began with a Zoom meeting with her instructor, where they analyzed the reference image using Photoshop, discussed cropping strategies, and applied the rule of thirds to determine the focal point. Marilyn sketched her initial outline based on this guidance. Over the subsequent weeks, she participated in individualized lessons that focused on color theory, including color mixing and the color wheel, as well as the concept of color bias. The instructor emphasized understanding value, encouraging Marilyn to move beyond mere object representation to explore underlying shapes and values. These tailored lessons allowed her to advance at her own pace. Upon completing her painting, Marilyn felt a profound sense of accomplishment, as her work reflected both her creative expression and the mastery of the techniques she had learned, marking a significant milestone in her development as an artist.
